Université Libre de Bruxelles

Founded in 1834, the Université Libre de Bruxelles has a long tradition of excellence in Research with four scientific Nobel Prizes, one Fields Medal, three Wolf Prizes and two Marie Curie Excellence Awards. It is one of the largest and best Research Universities in Belgium, with a student population of 24,000 (under)graduate students and 1,600 PhD students. The Faculty of Sciences has over 150 academic and research staff spread across 10 departments, including the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences (DSTE). It is a center for cutting- edge research excellence, employing a trans-disciplinary approach, in sustainable development.

An overarching goal of their research is to understand and quantify the response of carbon fluxes to climate perturbations, as well as their feedbacks on local and global carbon cycling and climate. For this purpose, the group develops and applies state-of-the-art biogeochemical and Earth system models.
