Founded 1878 Stockholm University (SU), is one of the world’s top 100 higher education institutes. 70,000 students, 1,800 doctoral students and 5,000 staff are active within the areas of science and human science. SU has a particularly strong profile in natural sciences and hosts the largest natural science faculty in Scandinavia. Among the 16 cross-disciplinary profile areas of Stockholm University Climate, Seas and Environment is particularly relevant to Nunataryuk. This commitment to environmental science is also visible internationally. The Times Higher Education Assessment for 2016 ranked SU at 3rd place in the World in the field of “Environmental Science”. The Shanghai Ranking of World Universities placed SU in 2016 as 5th in the World in subject area “Environmental Science and Engineering”. A national centre of scientific excellence is located at SU, the interdepartmental Bolin Centre for Climate Research. Both SU co-PIs Gustafsson (leader WP4) and Hugelius (leader WP 2) are actively engaging and benefitting from the Bolin Centre with its strong collaborative network on Arctic carbon-climate couplings. The faculty of science is further supporting the SU Delta Facility for Compound-Specific Isotope Analysis (run by Gustafsson group), which will benefit the permafrost organic matter characterization work in Nunataryuk.

Main tasks in the project
